The time has come again when many high school students are choosing their respective institutions to attend in the fall. Belleville East High School student Jaaliyah is already embarking on a quite unique transition through her school’s “Running Start” program.

What is the Running Start Program?

The Running Start program allows highly-qualified high school juniors to earn a high school diploma from their local high school or homeschool while simultaneously earning a transfer degree to their respective college. Jaaliyah will be awarded two associates degrees (one in Art & one in Science) in addition to her high school diploma this spring. She was recently accepted to Augustana College’s pre-med program where she will be studying Biology. Due to her obtaining the associates degrees, she will be entering Augustana College as a 17- year old college junior!

To kickstart her collegiate journey, her family is looking to get her enough votes in the Augustana GoodFit T-Shirt contest. The student photo that receives the most votes from the general population wins a $2,500 scholarship!

We are happy to see this young scholar soar!
