I loved programming so I put my nose down and just grinded it out for 2yrs until I got my degree. Doubting my capabilities every step of the way… that is one of my biggest regrets.

Let’s Talk Innovation is a multi-industry innovation conference bridging together global leaders in healthcare, technology, real estate, media and more to introduce educational resources. This education conference platform has invited several different entities annually to deliver new disruptive technology solutions to the world.

Every year students have the opportunity to create their own Google Doodle for a chance to have it featured on the Google.com search landing page. They also are entering to receive scholarships for their respective schools. One contestant that seemed to be going viral everywhere after her mother had posted a Facebook message was youth activist, artist, and Lusher Charter School Senior: Morrah Burton-Edwards.

STEM From Dance gives girls of color access to a STEM Education by using dance to empower, educate, and encourage them as our next generation of engineers, scientists, and techies. Yamilee wanted to help others build self confidence while increasing the diversity in STEM.

It was there, where leadership saw the potential I had to serve as a cyber professional. I was paired with a mentor who didn’t “have time” to mentor me. He actually expressed to me that the role I was being groomed for shouldn’t have been happening, and that I should have had at least 10 years of experience before being offered the role.

When we think of the term innovation, many of us automatically gravitate toward the idea of something new and fresh created by technology experts. We’d like to think that there’s a plethora of dope ideas coming into fruition across many avenues of STEM.

Then I began to take courses and I felt a sense of isolation. In most of my classes, I was the only black student and this was intimidating. Some days I felt uncomfortable to speak in class and sometimes felt that I would be criticized for my different, yet “simplistic” views.

Once I began to slowly climb out of my depression, I tried to wear high heels again. I quickly realized that was not going to be an easy walk in the park and that’s when I decided to change my approach and gained interest in shoe design.

In wake of the Flint, Michigan water crisis these stouthearted six women of color decided to use their voices to speak up for the voiceless.

My career started the day I walked through the gates of that university in the name of “Let’s make Daddy happy!” I found myself in a man dominated work environment where I felt less, unwanted, unexperienced and worthless!

Women need to be empowered with regard to society both ethnically and economically so that they become adequate co-worker in development processes by walking the path of inherent social justice.

One day, I was notified by financial aid at CSU and informed that I needed to present my social security card. I went to the financial aid office at my school and was told that I needed to go to the SSA. When I went to the SSA, I learned that I was mistakenly declared deceased on the date of my father’s death.

Everything was taken away from me.
