The previous year has allowed many of us tap in to our creativity and explore new avenues. From finding an HBO series to binge watch, creating an indoor home garden, or discovering new hobby ideas, the quarantined life has had some positive outcomes.
Master’s degree student Kianjai stops by to share her sentiments on some things that have made her life much easier during this time.
Hi, My name is Kianjai (Kia) Huggan. I recently graduated with my degree in Computer Science & Engineering and now I work at Black Girls CODE while pursuing my Master of Engineering degree. The basis of my work is to leverage technology in advocating for education equity.
How have you been adjusting to at home life?
Adjusting to working remotely really highlighted how well technology can connect us all and the difference that equal access to tech can have. In these times where we are socially distanced the “digital divide”, has become more apparent. Access to the internet has become essential to communication, education, adjusted work environments and more. Teachers, bosses, employees, and students alike were able to adapt during these times given that they had the resources to. We have to continue to not only utilize tech but to make sure that it is accessible. I work towards solutions to these challenges at Black Girls CODE. Community is important and powerful. I think we especially see this during the current times.
